Speech Guideline
1). Select
a Meaningful Topic - Subject? Topic? What am I interested in? What do I know
about?
2). Brainstorm
all ideas! Don’t edit. Point form will do. Write down all ideas that come to
mind.
3). Edit
and put ideas from the brainstorm in order.
- group common
ideas
- number the
ideas to write in order
- eliminate
things that you don’t need
4). Time
- 3 to 5 minutes
- estimate from
your ideas how many you need to talk about
5). Introduction
- Beginning / opening paragraph of your speech
- Be creative!
Make interesting and exciting! Be specific and give details!
Types of Introduction A)
Anecdote - a short story
B) Surprise - ask a question, do not tell the audience what your
speech is on until the end of your paragraph
C) Quote -
quote a famous person, or mimic someone
D) Statement -
state a fact
E) Commentation
– Play by play
6) Body
- What your speech is all about!
- Organize
(order) all of the main points that you wish to write.
- Write in an organized
sequence the ideas of your speech
7). Conclusion
- the ending of your speech.
- make
interesting
- review and
restate the main idea / purpose of your speech
8). Edit
with peer / parent / teacher.
9). Write
out on cue cards and PRACTICE!
