How to Write an Effective Introduction
When writing your introduction try to keep the
following things in mind:
·
Topic Sentence
– a topic sentence is a sentence that clearly and effectively explains what
your topic is. Traditionally, this sentence comes first. In a speech this
sentence is most effective when it is the last sentence of opening paragraph.
·
Try to vary your style of sentences - Eg.
You could incorporate many types of introductions into your paragraph –
Types of Intros –
Types of Introduction - A) Anecdote - a short story, play by play announcer /
broadcaster.
B) Surprise - ask a question,
do not tell the audience what your speech is on until the end of your paragraph
C)
Quote - quote a famous person, or mimic someone
D)
Statement - state a fact
E)
Commentation - Play by Play
·
Introductions should move from general to
specific as your sentences progress in your paragraph
